Paying too much per kWh ? Perhaps not!

Must say I knew it was a bit pricey for power there but I'd never looked at the actual costs:

...have to pay 85p/kWh , up from 66p...

The letter (pdf linked in that BBC news URL) does reflect the situation though in detail from 'both sides of the coin' (no pun intended!) though...

I wonder what prepay prices would be?

Saying that, the letter (from the BBC site) is terrible, full of spelling errors.

I'd imagine about the same, I can't see it being much higher. People just would not pay!

I'd be more interested to know the rate of ahem 'fiddling' with those prices.

I'm not sure if the supply comes from France or the UK I've not checked however even if the energy supplier had to fork out several £m for a cable , over 10 to 20 years it would benefit them and they could offer a better price no doubt too.

I suppose there are reasons why it has not been done though.

I would guess that the supply is generated by one person who runs the whole set up who can set the rates accordingly to cover his costs .EDF in France are not too far away but if they were supplying Sark the prices would be much lower than 85 pkwh... The few Sark residents may have solar panels and possibly their own little windmills and generators to manage off grid . I would nt expect any of the wealthy Sark residents to be fiddling their meter
