I am thinking of moving back in with my Dad whilst saving.
He currently doesnt pay Council Tax as he is Retired and Single Occupancy. Obviously if I move in then we would have to start paying Council Tax.
Firstly, is there any discount that available as I would be the only one in the household with an income?
Secondly, would me moving back in with my Dad in any way effect his other benefits that he receives? I.E. Bereavement Allowance etc?
I dont want to move back in with my Dad if it going to cost a lot of additional money or effect my Dads monthly income?
Any help would be amazing!! Thanks :j

I'm no expert, but 'retired' does not exempt you from CT.
Single Occupancy gives 25% discount. Yes - you & he'd lose that.
Firstly, is there any discount that available as I would be the only one in the household with an income? Not unless there are benefits - ask on the Benefits forum.

His 25% single occupancy discount would end as you would be resident.
The council tax reduction award he receives would need to be reviewed by the council.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
