Samsung Galaxy Tab A stylus?

I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab A tablet and discovered Samsung Notes on it.
It needs a stylus so I bought one.
And it doesn't work.
It seems to have a switch on the side but whether it is switched on or off I have no idea.
I can write using my nail so that part works so why is the stylus not working?
Am I missing something?

Sounds like you bought a Samsung S pen.
If one didn't come with your tab you don't have the one that the S pen works on and you just need a cheap stylus from ebay......Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

That Stylus looks like an S pen knock off. Anyway it doesn't seem to be a capacitive one, which is what you need.
Something like THIS...
