Text from a bank I don’t use...

Hi all,
I just received a text message that said;
We have received your card agreement and you will receive your card and PIN in the next 5 working days.
This was from M&S Bank. I don’t have any accounts with M&S and haven’t (as far as I can remember) even attempted to get an account with them...
Is it something I should worry about? Should I report it somewhere? Or just ignore?
Thanks,
Rez

For safety, have a quick peek at your three credit files.
Or contact M&S on a safe number.0 -
Hi zx81,
I’m part of the “Credit Club” on MSE and couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary in the report at all...
Seems strange - there’s no link or anything to click on in the text...
Thanks,

Remember that Experian isn't the only CRA in town.
Check Equifax and TransUnion too.0 -
I'd be contacting M&S Bank directly on a known safe number from their website ASAP. I'd also advise to check your credit files from all 3 CRAs. Keep in mind that it can often take 4-8 weeks for changes to propagate through, so if the account is only being set up now, it might not be appearing on your credit files yet so it'd be worth keeping on eye on them down the line.0

I think over reaction should be avoided at this time.
Was the text addressed to the OP by name or just received on their phone?
Certainly the OP should contact the bank but at this point I would suggest not rushing around panic panic checking this that and the other.0 -
Could just be that someone has opened an account and misquoted their mobile phone number.0

I agree with Terry - it is most likely a mis-transcribed number.
HOWEVER - watch out for follow-up texts as if it is scammers trying to get you to divulge personal info they may send a second text and this time ask you to call a specified number or go to a web page or something - do not do any of these things.0 -
