Just open a free Starling account now. Card will be with you mid week.

  • Managed to find my new credit card, so hopefully that will work.

I'm not being sent by a company in the UK, I'm going to work on a short term freelance project, and no, food isn't covered as standard.

You're away from home on work and still expected to pay for your food?
Who doesn't have to pay for their daily food even when they are not working..?

Yes, Starling Bank, forget about your credit card unless it is fee-free for overseas use, which seems unlikely since you hardly knew if you even had one...
    Evolution, not revolution
  • It's a Halifax credit card. I rarely use a credit card which is why it was in a drawer somewhere :)
  • I am a tit. Checked the credit card and it didn't say "clarity", which I know is the one that's free to use overseas. So applied online for a clarity card and was accepted. Then double checked and it seems the card I already have actually *is* a clarity card. So I'll now have two. Whoops.

Dubai can be done on a budget. Just avoid the big malls. The Metro is really cheap to use, even taxis are cheap if you need to use them. I never paid more than a tenner within Dubai itself (more to go to the Palm/outside Dubai, but never more than £30).

Sometimes the weather and humidity means you don't want to walk to the Metro, even if it's 10 minutes walk away! It can get super humid, it's almost like a sauna!

Agree about Carrefore - it's reasonably priced.
