Apple account phishing

OK I'm a total idiot but I received an email from apple .... it looked totally 'genuine' unlike most of these things, I entered my user name and password then scrolled down and it wanted bank details, I immediately stopped and quit the page ... have I possibly caused myself problems ? I don't think I pressed "send" at any point ? Thanks for any help for this total fool .... but it was very 'real' looking !

Best to change your password, to be on the safe side.

Never enter in your logins via an address sent over email. Always go directly to the website yourself.
  • Yes I appreciate I was a nit ... thank you for your advice Dan, god of you to take the time.
  • Change your password as dan958 says. If you use the same password on other sites (some folk do) then change all those passwords as well. Better to be safe than sorry.
  • Thanks chaps

Besides changing your passwords and using 2FA, you can also report the email you've received to Apple.

Apart from the good advice already given not to click links in emails, if you hold your mouse over the link wording in an email it will probably show the actual web address where it's sending you to in the status bar at the bottom.

If an email is in code and presents visually on the page with graphics etc. (it's basically like a web page), the link wording on the page can be something like 'log in to your Apple account' but the link/URL itself (hidden in the code) might be sending you somewhere else entirely.

Thus: This link should send you to my own blog. If you mouse over the bold wording, it should show somewhere (usually towards the bottom of the page) what the actual URL is.
