Missed payment, advice please

Options
Ive been charged a late payment fee on my Halifaz amazon credit card of £12, I received a phone call 2 days ago telling me I hadnt made a payment and could I do one on the phone there and then. I said I was sure I had paid as i did it several times a month online, she said there was nothing on record since 5th Oct so I needed to make a payment that day. After checking my account online myself it appears I managed to pay my other credit card twice :o and did in fact miss my amazon card altogether.

Is it standard to get a fee after missing only one payment ? its never happened before and I usually pay off much more than the minimum every month, sometimes making 2 or 3 smaller payments during the month.

Its got me really narked that they have charged me when it was a genuine mistake, although im sure they dont give a hoot about my reasoning.

TIA

Same here, see my thread further down.

Just pay it, learn from your mistake and move on.

try phoning up and saying its the first time etc and they may refund it.
why not set up a DD for the card so it never happens again

Better to take responsbility for it and never let it happen again. A direct debit would be a good start. I'm going down that road.
  • I cant really do DD as I dont always have the money come the date its due, which is why I pay it off in random chunks. Also it means I pay off more than is due.

I think i will give them a call, i know its all my fault and dont mind paying the fee but there is a little voice in my ear that keeps telling me to question it !! (bloomin martin ;))

    See Martin's guide ...

This is a step-by-step guide, including template letters, to force your current or old credit card provider(s) to repay the last six years of late payment fees or charges for going beyond your limit: often you can get £100s or even £1,000s back.

    ...

Charges after June 2006. For any charges on or after June 2006, you were probably hit for £12 each time. As this is already set to the OFT recommended amount, you simply need to ask for the full £12 amount to be refunded.

Or alternatively accept that you broke the terms and conditions and dont do it again!
  • If you have been with them for a while and explain it was a mistake more often than not they will waive the charge on the first occasion. Give them a call - worth a try

  • Its worth a try, be polite and explain what happened. As its a cc I dont hold out much hope though. PS Good Ol Natwest ( for me anyway) agreed not to charge £30 for going over my overdraft (blooming cc payment went out a day earlier than expected!) when I rang.

  • I'd say give the apology and explanation route a go if you've had the card for a while and not missed any payments. I did this with Nationwide one time I'd been away and missed a payment and they waived the charge....

i did this a few months back, same as you was just a mistake but as it was my mistake i just paid the fee ,i think i was more annoyed at myself than the cc for the fee
