Fraudulent accounts on my credit file.

Options
I have a number of fraudulent accounts on my credit file. I have contacted some of the creditors and they have do their own investigation and closed the accounts as fraud. These still show on my credit file. They said that its not up to them to remove it from my file its up to them.

I have slowly watched my credit score improve over the last 5 years. I'ts been painful and exhausting but i was seeing the light at the end. I have recently been advised to use check my file which complies info from all 3 CRA's. I am now back to square one and my situation is worse than i imagined.

Is there any way to have all the fraudulent accounts removed from my file? Can i go to a financial adviser? Anyone I can see or anything I can do?

Comments

  • Don't use Check My File.

Dispute the entries directly with each of the three CRAs.
  • I disputed the accounts which showed on Experian direct to experian and they contacted all the creditors of those accounts on my behalf and they all came back and said I had to contact them direct myself. There are in excess of 15 individual companies across the 3 CRA's. The ones i have contacted direct from my exparian report took months to resolve, a couple took nearly 2 years to resolve but still show on my file.
  • Contact them again if they’re not removed

You must complain in writing to each individual company you suspect has a fraudulant account in your name, complaints have a set time scale of 8 weeks, if after that time, the situation has not been resolved to your satisfaction, you can then involve the financial ombudsman and/or the information commisionaires office.

I would say pass your complaints to both, it can be a long exhausting excercise, but its the only way to get issues such as this resolved, you should not have waited two years, all complaints handling literature specifies the 8 week timeframe, if things take longer, you escalate the matter.

You also need to investigate how or who has been pretending to be you.

What sort of accounts are these? What type of product - credit cards, loans, utilities?
Do they all show up with your correct name, date of birth, address etc?
What is the status of the individual accounts?
In what specific way iare these accounts having a negative effect on your ability to obtain credit?
