Domestic & General Insurance

I have 4 appliances on maintenance plans with Domestic & General and one of the appliances has a renewal date not too far away. The paperwork arrived and I noted that it was no longer a maintenance plan but an INSURANCE plan from October. I rang D&G and they said they no longer do maintenance plans, all future plans are insurance plans. I then queried that if I made a claim would I not have to declare to other insurers that I had made an insurance claim if they asked. I was told that these types of insurance claims don't count and you do not need to declare them. I checked by saying that if the insurers asked: "have you made any insurance claims in the last five years" that I really could answer no and still have valid insurance. They tried to assure me that this was the case. I do not believe them and worry that a future insurance claim may be invalidated if I had claimed from D&G for an appliance repair.
Does anyone know the actual facts? I find it hard to believe I am not doing something wrong if I am asked a direct question and I blatantly disregard a claim based on the salesperson's advice.
Do applianec insurance claims count as insurance claims?
Thanks

I'd have thought you'd have to declare it, a claim is a claim. I cancelled my D&G plans because of this change, I want a service plan to ensure it's maintained not insurance for when it's completely knackered0
