Do you want me to move this thread to the Diaries section?
Yes please x0 -
So we’ve hit our first hurdle dh came into the bedroom last night and asked if I’d included his credit card on our debt totals. All of our debt payments come out of a joint account, with the exception of one credit card that is linked to my husbands personal account. The DD comes out of his account so I don’t ‘see’ it. It also obviously not on my credit file when I looked.
It’s £5120! He also has a 1000 overdraft so there we have it. An additional 6.1k of debt! We were up till 1am trawling our accounts and credit files and that is definitely the only missing debt! I will update soa over the weekend.
Feel a bit deflated as this puts our debt right up in the 60ks 0 -
That must be really frustrating, but much better to find out now and tackle them than find out later! And you can celebrate getting under £60k.....:beer:Proud to be debt free September 2014. :j

How are you getting on? I’ve not had a great Oct in more ways than one so haven’t posted. Did you start a diary? I think I might!

I also found a bar of Cadburys fruit and nut in the fridge salad draw. It's been a good day today
A chocolate bar would never have been discovered by my kids in the salad drawer, either :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Hey,welcome to MSE salXYZ.You are sounding so motivated. I am sorry about the disappointment of realising there was another debt you hadn't seen, but at least you can bosses with it,like the other debts you had remembered. Can you imagine if it had only been remembered when you were what you thought was months away from being debt- free:(.
If you do decide to start a diary (or continue this one!),I would definitely follow and cheer you on!
Good luck!!

Great news about the balance transfer! :j
Bad news about the new debt.
It's all up and down at the start until you properly get a handle on what you're dealing with. Hopefully you have a clearer picture now.
Just wanted to add, prioritise paying off your husband's overdraft. The bank can call this in at any moment, not a little bit alarming, and it will be good for him to see a positive balance in his account every month.
Best of luck. You're doing great.0 -
Just wondering how you are getting on, Sal?0

Hi Everyone,
Sorry for my absence. It's been a very busy month with work, plus we were hit with the lurgy so I have been out of action for a while.
I am really pleased with how we are doing. It's certainly a very different experience to last December when I literally spent about 3k on Christmas stuff!
It has been hard at times, especially having to turn down nights out etc, but we are focused and we both feel much more comfortable with our situation now that it is under at least some sort of control.
I do have one dilemna.... My parents have said they want to pay for us to go ti Disneyland next summer, along with my sister and her family. This is for our 40th birthday and my sister and BIL's 20th anniversary. Parents have offered to pay for flights, accommodation and park passes meaning that we would have to find spending money
I just don't think that it's appropriate for us to go next year give our level of debt but I am not sure how to explain this without having to give full disclosure on the state of our finances. I am also slightly worried that dh is warming up the idea of us going!!0 -
Your parents clearly think it is the right time because of those anniversaries. How old are your kids? Would they get more from the trip if they were a year older?0
