camorder to computer help needed please

right back from trip, had a fab time.
now to transfer video over to computer, so far have managed:

• got my firewire cable into computer and camcorder.
• windows auto start wizard for video
• select camcorder
• select copy all, or words to that effect
• says it is rewinding tape...it is already reound
• then says unknown error and stops trying
• write thread here for help:D whats to do/try next?:o

What's your operating system? Better still, goto Start\Run type 'eventvwr' no quotes, then click through Applications\System\Programs or whatever and find the time that you had the 'error'. Double click on the entry, hit Yes and see what windows has to say about it. If it doesn't make any sense, include the information in a followup post and someone here will be able to decipher it for you.
