    No surprises there :D
If you'd asked me to guess the number 1 I'd have said lights.

It is usually lights, then wipers, then broken springs, then emissions on cars young enough that corrosion isn't an issue.

Fords do knock suspension bushes out though.

You do wonder how so many cars fail on bulbs out, apart from the brake lights (I have my magic stick to jam them on) it is easy enough to check them and change most of them before the test.

Perhaps it justifies annual testing, or is it a self-fulfilling prophesy, people don't check because the annual test does it for them.....
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

"Most owners cba with basic maintenance"

    Hold the front page.

(BTW, facade, you don't even need a "magic stick" to check brake lights - just, well, your namesake.)
  • I checked the make/model car I own, Toyota Yaris Mk3. The largest failure reason, by far, is the windsreen wiper not clearing sufficient area. I don't know how an owner can rectify that with the car having a single 28" wiperblade. Other than if a smaller blade is fitted?

No, it's simply because the blade fitted is shagged and missing swathes of the swept area.

The owner cba to spend five or ten quid on a replacement blade.

Yes, you've probably hit the nail on the head there.:(
Same issue with lights and tyres too, owners/drivers can't be a'd and it's shock horror, blame someone else etc. when their vehicle fails on such things!

Excuse me - you know your brake lights are out?
"It's OK, the MOT's in a couple of months"

"Wah, it's so unfair, the MOT cost me hundreds!"
    What did it fail on?
    "Tyres and lights and windscreen..."

    Interesting.
But you only have to go for a drive on any evening to see the amount of cars with at least one light out.

But then some of the questions on here amaze me. People who don't see major faults as mattering that much as long as the poor old bus will keep on dragging itself down the road, aren't going to worry about the odd light being out.

I gave up telling people about lights being out (if the chance arose) years ago.
Too many "Who is this idiot why should I care" attitudes.
Last one I did say something to was a bloke my age with a little minibus type van. He was in front of me going into the supermarket, and had a brake light out, and as I walked past I noticed he'd got a well worn tool box in the "boot". So I told him the brake light was out, and he thanked me. He said he'd only checked it the other day, and people didn't bother saying anything any longer.
Is it an age thing checking the car? :D
