I haven't really made any progress today.
I have fibromyalgia, the weather makes all of my joints ache and generally make me pretty grumpy. I'm currently in bed, under the sheets and in thermals. Might get a hot water bottle.
I tried to go to the bank to ask about my mortgage payment today. I thought this was wise. Want to know what's not wise? Going into the wrong bank! :rotfl:
Been looking at electric screwdrivers. Might order one to help with all the things like changing locks.3 -
Yesterday I got my council tax bill and I was genuinely shocked! My flat is two bed and is charged only £5 less a year than my mum's three bed house! I looked at the bands for the related flats and they are all in similar bands so I guess my mum is just very lucky. But I did apply for the single person's discount.
Tomorrow I am waiting for the engineer to make my flat light up. I'm also going to ring a few numbers of people who can do helpful things (like fit light fixtures) and ask for estimates. I have such cleaning to do. Tomorrow I will focus on the kitchen.
Excited!2 -
I got my water bill today and it looks like it's going to be £50 ish a month which seems really high for one person? I might give them a ring on Tuesday and see if there's anything I can do.
Today has been very productive. I have cleaned four of the upper cupboards in the kitchen, leaving four more upper cupboards and all the lower ones, the oven and fridge. I need many breaks, it's hard work this!
I also emailed an electrician (who has already got back to me), rang a plasterer and went to the carpet man. I still like the carpet I chose months ago. I also got the estimate based on the measurements from the estate agents which was less than half than I was estimating. He also said that that he would help with the floor boards, obviously this will cost more but I'm so happy because it'll take a load off my mind.
Also picked up my meds, bought some Tea towels (green to match the kitchen theme and has otters!) and got an electric screwdriver. This will be handy since while cleaning the cupboards I found that some of the doors are hanging on by sheer will.2 -
That is high. Ours is £35 a month DD with two of us.
Good luck with the DIY and cleaning, that's the bit I hate about moving, cleaning other people's grime!Mortgage - £23,500 remaining

Oh the grim here is positively criminal. I knew that the carpets were ruined but the abandoned furniture (the property has been empty since January) appear to have been strategically placed. I don't know what these stains are but I'm not getting onto this floor without the dust sheet down.
I was supposed to clean today. I have a cold and spent much of the day in bed. My mum took me to a supermarket and now I have a microwave! £40! Amazing.
I also have electricity! It might have taken less time to invent a generator.2 -

Sometimes only industrial strength rubber gloves and a head to toe decorators onesie suit will do! Rip it all out and start fresh. Hope you feel better soon!Mortgage - £23,500 remaining

AHAHA!
I love the image. Actually I had an electrician around today and he was gobsmacked at the state of it. How are you?
I have set up my water DD today, I miscalculated the monthly and it's actually around £36. Still high but better.
Tried to set up the Council Tax but they insist that I need to print off the DD instruction, hand write the information and then snail mail it to them. What kind of large organisation can't set up a DD online? Madness.
I tried to meet with the bathroom man but he had an emergency job. Shame, but he has offered to work around my work time because I can't get more time off. What a good guy!
I see that there is a big MSE push for energy switches. I'm so confused about this. For one, right now I'm on prepayment and I was thinking that I could just stay on it until the renovations are done. But maybe I should switch now to take advantage of the event? Also, I have no idea how much energy I would use and the estimation tool on the MSE tool assumes that flats are on one level. Mine is on two, sort of like a mid terrace house on top of someone else's flat. I'll probably just go on the energy board to ask their advice but I'm just putting it down as one of my to-do's.
I've been reading people's threads on here and they're so inspiring, but I don't know how to say that on their threads without being cheesy!
Most importantly.
I made myself my first cup of tea in my flat today.3 -
Met with the bathroom guy! He was very nice and I spoke with him about my needs as a falling nelly. I may have asked for the impossible as I want a handle that doesn't look like a disability aid. What can I say, I'm vain!
I have a few different things on my mind at the moment. Work is manic and this is only leading up to the busy period. I broke up with my boyfriend about 4 months ago, I'm beginning to miss having someone in my life but I also really hate dating. It's always terrible and I have just a bad taste in men. As this is the internet, I want to clarify that I do not think all men are bad, I just pick ones where we don't match up. So there's internet dating. I also want to join a boardgame club. Not for dating, just because boardgames are brilliant. It's also only £3 a week which I think I can stretch to.
I'm also thinking about making an incomplete SOA to account for the items that I am committing to. It should help with working out how much I can afford to live on I think. At the moment, I haven't committed to anything that isn't essential.
Tomorrow I'm meeting the plasterer so that's exciting!
Lastly, I would like to commit to having £100,000 in investments in 10 years time. Currently I have £22,000. It'll be a stretch but I'll have a go!2 -

It will just make it so much sweeter when you're finished though. All the hard work will be worth it!
I'm good thanks. Gearing up for a weekend of decorating over here too!Mortgage - £23,500 remaining

I wouldn't worry about no bath if you intend to live there have what you want/need. From what I've seen when new folk move in anywhere the first thing in the skip is the bathroom suite and kitchen no matter what age they are. If the owner after you wants a bath they'll soon change it.
Good luck with your new adventure. My son has just bought his first house, livable but needs some general updating but time is his problem as he works away so often.Love living in a village in the country side2
