I upgraded my Lloyds current account to gold service circa 1990 but as it has been subsequently upgraded to Platinum and then Premier I don't suppose that this is applicable to me.
It is very generous of Lloyds to be waiving the fee in respect of accounts opened prior to 2005 though. I wonder why such generosity on their part.

Only if you keep a credit balance of £2000 at all times.

I am wondering if it is/was possible to add Club Lloyds to such accounts so that the account holder would have got the Club Lloyds interest in addition to the free gold service benefits? That would have been a good deal back in the days of 5% interest.

No - changing the account would have meant being charged the £14.95 monthly fee.
  • I received my "Annual Eligibility Statement" a couple of weeks ago. It also contains the "Your Gold Added Value Account has a monthly maintaining the account fee of £14.95" wording. The fee's always been waived if I've kept at least £2,000 in the acount during any given month. And I'd assumed that this was just a generic letter, and that the waiver would continue to apply.

But I've just spotted that last year's annual eligibility statement made no mention of the fee. I fully appreciate that Lloyds isn't obliged to continue to waive the fee, and can change the terms and conditions. But if they were going to start charging where they haven't before, I'd expect to be told this specifically - i.e. warned that the waiver was going to stop. So I'm assuming that (as the OP appears to assume) this is just a generic letter, and nothing's changed for those who've benefitted from the fee waiver. I'll report back if a fee is, in fact, charged this month.

I looked at this a couple of years ago. Well getting an additional club account I think. The small print seamed to sugguest I would start having to pay for my gold account. So didn't

Thats my thinking. I get one of these letters every time they change something in the T&Cs always mentioning the monthly fee. Just keep 2k in there and all should be well with the world.
