CIFAS doesn't show on 'credit checking sites'.
You need to find out what category of fraud the marker is - ie fraud by you, or by a third party.
It's only bad for you if you're the one identified as committing the fraud.0 -
Ah I see, how do I find this out? The letter just says it’ll be on here for 6 years.
I assume it’s the lesser of the two. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Just called them, they said they can’t discuss that info with me and to contact Halifax.

For some reason my quote isn’t working on mobile.
Is category 1 the worst of the two?
So it’s nothing to worry about, I can still get credit etc and they won’t reject me because of this? I do remember someone had owed BP £100 and they sent me a letter the details were very similar to mine but not exactly the same, I wonder if it’s linked.
I’m just worried it’ll affect my mortgage next year. Weird how my letter looks so different though. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Also is 1 the highest, or does it not work that way? I can’t seem to find too much relevant info on category 1 or 2 etc.
But category 2 only lasts 13 months whereas category 1 lasts 6 years - so assuming category 1 is much worse? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
It won't affect your chances of getting credit - it just means additional checks need to be done to make sure it's you who's applying.0

I see, I see.
Which one if worse out of category 1 or 2? I just assumed a category 2 would be worse if you’re a victim of impersonation but that only lasts 13 months for some weird reason.
Maybe it’s why Mercedes requested bank statements from me when I went for credit. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
