Transfer of Electricity account

I am a former Eversmart customer and was switched to Utilita on 11/09/19 with account being with them from 18/09/19.

I decided to switch and chose Symbio Energy and started the switch on 20.09/19. I received confirmation from them that I would be a live customer by 05/10/19.

However, this morning they have just emailed to say the switch is cancelled because we have only been switched recently and we have to stay with the new provider for 3-4 weeks.

The problem is that Utilita are much dearer than both Eversmart and Symbio.

My question is that correct information? I though I could initiate a switch as soon as I was a customer with Utliita, Is this information correct?

    According to Ofgem:
Our advice is not to switch immediately, but wait until Utilita has been in touch with you. They will contact you with personalised information about your tariff.

Your account will be fully set up with them in the coming weeks. Utilita will contact you at this point to confirm once this has happened.
If customers wish to change their tariff or switch supplier, they should ask to be switched to another Utilita tariff, or shop around. You won’t be charged any exit fees. Waiting for them to contact you will be the smoothest way to have any credit balances you had with Eversmart Energy honoured by Utilita.
So have Utilita contacted you yet confirming your account is fully set up, and you can now switch???
  • Only last week you posted that Utilita have contacted you and it would take 4-8 weeks to complete

Why have you ignored the advice you were already provided by the supplier???
  • Looking at your past posts, it would appear you would have just been coming to the end of your eversmart tariff anyway, so your cost with them would have increased anyway.

If you had taken the oppportunity to switch supplier at the beginning of your switching window, not only would you not be in the situation you now find yourself in, but you would have got cheaper prices from Symbio, as they have gradually upped their prices over the couple of months

It wasn't advice that the switch would take 4-8 weeks to complete, that relates to the time to sort any credit or debit on the account, but thanks for your help?

As such I haven't ignored their advice. Their contact informed me that I would fully be with Utilita by 18 September 2018, hence my waiting until after that date to initiate a switch.

However, having spoken to them this morning, the situation is that on 7 October 2019 I will be able to re-contact them and initiate a switch.

The reason for the delay is that all the information has not been updated into Utilitas records, but will all be done by the 7th October.

Yes hindsight is the best of all, wonderful if you have 20/20 vision!!!

However, I flew to Turkey on 7th September for my annual holiday and missed any news pertaining to Eversmart ceasing trading. In addition, I had read of others who hadn't heard from Eversmart and retained the tariff they were on, so I thought I would take advantage of this. Whilst in Turkey there wasn't much I could do except wait.

Shame I hadn't had the foresight to switch, but I wasn't expecting them to close!! I never got any reminder emails from them, but accept they were never the best at communication.
