I personally wouldn't risk buildings insurance without accidental cover. The chances of accidental damage are reasonably high with a building. It's cheaper without as the chances of you having to make a claim without accidental cover is much reduced.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I'm still waiting on a quidco payment from barclays home insurance from last feb.
Seems like quidco have given up chasing it now.
The quote was pretty competitive, even without the cashback.
Karma is a wonderful thing. ;)
  • I got 120 back from quidco for my car insurance and the whole insurance was only 180 as compared to my old saga insurance of 269 so think it is marvelous. My house insurance got cut in half too and with a much higher insured amount. Taffy
  • I have purchased home insurance via Quidco. No problem with tracking or receiving payment - last year my home insurance cost under £10 as a consequence! It does work. If it doesn't track, then simply cancel it!

After years of having accidental damage, about 6 years ago I have decided to underwrite some of this risk myself. I therefore insure against "catastophe" - I have a high excess and no accidental contents damage. This reduces my premium by about 60% (saved money went on mortgage overpayments). If my house burns down/floods and I loose just about everything then I am still covered. If I kick a football through my telly then I am not. But given the chance of it happening, and the cost through increased premiums (both before in the form of paying for the cover in the first place and afterwards when I have increased premiums as the consequence of making a claim) and excess payable when the claim is made, this could work out more expensive that underwriting the risk myself (and indeed despite having the cover, you could decide that its not worth claiming for anyway).

Depends on your attitude to risk, value of contents, personal financial circumstances and so on.

Bear in mind that for buildings, a lot of things are covered in the standard part of buildings cover anyway. Call up some policies on line and see what extra is actually covered and decide if how likely it is to happen and if its worth insuring against it. However, adding accidental damage to buildings insurance is not usually that much extra, accidental damage for contents OTOH can be (my contents insurance would have almost tripled!).

  • I've had so far £150 cash back through quidco on house insurance and car insurance and my daughter has had her cashback also. Have also had some bits and pieces like a few quid from the National Lottery etc. All tracked and paid exactly as expected. Go for it. Just one comment, earlier today I was having a conversation about home insurance and I was told there is now a clause you can ask for that means you are covered for 'investigative' work if you have a problem. If you don't check this clause is included then the cost of the work to find out the source of a problem would not be covered. Good Luck.:D

Make sure that you clear all cookies and temporary files before your second try.

    House £119.06 and £116.28 = £235.34 both with £120 cashback

    Profit of £4.66.

Car £229 minus £130 cashback. Best quote was £190. Profit £100

    and the list continues.

    Wish I'd discovered Quidco earlier.

I took out Car Ins with Pru via Quidco a week ago and this has not tracked,
    (my first Quidco attempt)
although a purchase with another company did track, so I must have been doing it correctly.
How long should I wait before I query this with Quidco ?
I don't want to cancel the Insurance as it was a good deal anyway.

    Many thanks
