Washing Machine - Powder drawer mouldy

The Powder drawer on the washing machine keeps getting mould on it.

It is cleaned quite often, but still keeps coming back.

Any ideas ?

  • Hi Gary S
I think that most people have the same problem.I clean my powder draw at least once a week and more if it is clogged up with unused soap powder.

I pull mine right out and then I use an old toothbrush or a washing up brush in a bowl of water to clean it thoroughly.I will often leave it to soak for a few hours before giving it a good clean.

For the piece in the machine that the draw fits into,I use a dish cloth with some kitchen soaked into it or even some thick bleach and I go right into the hole and give it all a good clean.Apart from leaving the powder draw right out so that the air can get to it,I don't think there is much you can do to stop it.

All my family and friends have the same problem, but they all leave theirs to congeal, but I hate that so I spend the time keeping it clean.I know I must be sad but it only takes five mnutes to do,if it is done every week.

Hope this info helps you a little..Good luck

Same problem here, but I have managed to keep it at bay by leaving the washer door and the soap drawer open for an hour or two after using, its not perfect and still needs cleaning every few weeks but nowhere near as bad as it used to be....

............and I do something similar tanith.;) Apart from when the washing machine is in use, I leave the soap dispenser drawer and the washer door open permanently. It allows air to circulate inside and stops mould developing.;)

My Zanussi washing machine has worked fault free (never needed a repair), it's mould free and is still in great condition.............at 13 years old.

Dont use the drawer for the powder-get a "ball" they used to come free with the powder.
PS if you can get the drawer right out its a lot easier to clean

roddydogs I do use a net with tablets in my machine but that doesn't stop the powder drawer going mouldy its mainly the fabric softener that causes the problems....
