Pink, green & blue ports on computer tower

As I know very little, maybe you could advise me please.
The connection to my system is on the back of my tower. At the bottom are three ports, pink/Green & blue. Until recently a cable from my flat screen monitor carried sound from the green port. ( As I don't listen to anything, all I've ever heard is the start-up/close/down jingle).
Recently I've bought a webcam with mike inbuilt and headset (with mike). This had two connectors, pink & green. I've introduced them in the ports at the rear, but obviously had to remove the black cable first.
I now have sound via the headset during webcam/instant calls. BUT, already I have a problem. Last night whilst waiting for someone to make contact from the Falklands, it occurred to me that other than a 3/4 second flag informing me they were on line and ready to be contacted, I had no idea if they were waiting for me. The comp is in the lounge but I don't want to sit watching the screen continuasly waiting for the flag..
I was wondering what the unused blue port was for, and if it would run in conjuction with the headphones, that way, if the other party wanted me, they could clic on ring/phone and alert me.
Hopefully someone somewhere might be able to come up with a solution, please?.

Green - speakers or earphones
Pink - Microphone
Blue - Audio line-in so of no use for problem.

However you can get cheap splitters to enable you to plug both your headphones and speakers in at once, but this will mean all sound comes out of both.
Or you can get something like this :http://www.retractacable.com/product_info.php?cPath=39&products_id=175&osCsid=cded689edae6098e5cd0ce664924c5bb which will let you switch easily from one to the other.0 -

I thought I'd get back to say that the post from Ebany in which a link was given to Retractables is so far perfect. I placed an oder this morning, and have now received an email informing me the item has been despatched. It may be that within 24 hrs, I will be up and running. Again my thanks. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
