AVRO meter reading nightmare

I moved to AVRO a few years back and since the my gas and elec have become a MESS!

Please dont judge and be mean because I havent been the perfect customer....
I have been giving meter readings as and when I can (about monthly but sometimes they are not dead on the date they demand due to personal issues) but AVRO have been ignoring these meter readings and using badly estimated readings every month.

Over the years this has evolved into over £700 of debt on the account because the initial estimates of payments were way off (or they've totally hiked our bills!!)

We have upped our DD to £175 a month as that is all we can afford and it seemed to have been chipping away at the debt (it is now apparently about £500) but I have noted that several of the meter readings I have given are completely missing from the online records and others that have been recorded have been totally ignored when estimating our bills. (the gas has been worked out using an estimated figure for the last few months that is over a hundred units less than the last recorded meter reading they had which was in June meaning we owe them money on that that they havent even billed us for.)

I am concerned as I still dont actually know how much electricity and gas we are using a month and I dont know if we are paying enough to get rid of the debt. I am desperate to change to another, more reliable supplier in the hope that we can get a smart meter to avoid this type of mess and start again but I really dont know what to do.

Has anybody had a similar experience? And does anybody have any advice? I dont know what to do about this mess.

TIA

I like others on this forum keep our own records - a simple spread sheet of readings, unit rates, standing charges and VAT.

Do you still have your very first bill from AVRO which will give meter readings - read your meters today and do some calculations. The unit rates will have changed a bit but you should get a good approximation.

I always read my meters on the last day of the month - an earlier thread of mine showed various regimes . Establish yours.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • First thing to do is look online and print off the last bill, then compare the actual readings to their estimates. You may find that they have over estimated and that the debt is not as high as you thought. In any case go onto the meter readings page and put the readings in. Once the algorithm catches up at least the amount of debt will be accurate one way or the other.

Thanks, I have done this and the electricity bill is estimated much higher than the last bill. The gas however is very much underestimated. I have submitted meter readings but they have ignored the last two I provided especially the gas ones.

I'll do this - sounds like a good idea - Thanks
  • This is one of the problems I had with Avro, if your readings don't fit their profile then they ignore them and apply their own estimates, and they do this no matter how many manual readings you submit. I am now with Tonik and they have been accepting my readings so things work much more smoothly.

When I was with Avro I had to contact them every month and make sure they accepted the readings, but it helped that I had my own records to work out if the calculated bills were correct as well.
