If I see an item out of date then I look to find a store worker and inform them and leave it at that. Things happen. Unless there is a shelf full of out of date goods I don’t see a problem.

I did look around for someone to talk to but there wasn’t really anyone that I thought would be interested!

So no 1 on another department ?
  • Must have been Mr T's then. None of the staff are paid enough or trained well enough to be interested.

    Hi there
I was in a large supermarket and they had a product on the shelf where the use by date was yesterday. I took a picture and emailed them. They’ve just emailed me back saying sorry and the manager has now been made aware. Isn’t this a criminal offence to sell food past the use by date? Could I take this further? I’m not sure what I was expecting but they don’t seem to be that bothered!

Im getting some deja vu with the thread about the out of date milk on the shelf.
  • also having left it on the shelf someone may have purchased it and now has it at home and not noticed the date

You told them. They've apologised and rectified the situation.

    What more do you want/expect?

It does happen from time to time. My personal favourite? When people are looking for the better date, even if all of the stock has the same Best Before date, and they chuck them somewhere obscure because they think we have internal crystal balls :rotfl:

Bread doesn't get a use by date, it gets a best before date. Eating bread past it's best before date won't hurt you, it might just be a bit stale.

Selling food past it's best before date isn't illegal.

Even *if* it *had* been a use-by date, having food on the shelf past it's use by date isn't the same as selling it.

What more do you suggest they could have done, other than removing the item?

I hope you eat it whilst having a Compo Expression on your face and consider suing yourself for the distress and upset you've caused yourself.
