Use by date still on shelf?

Hi there
I was in a large supermarket and they had a product on the shelf where the use by date was yesterday. I took a picture and emailed them. They’ve just emailed me back saying sorry and the manager has now been made aware. Isn’t this a criminal offence to sell food past the use by date? Could I take this further? I’m not sure what I was expecting but they don’t seem to be that bothered!

Will probably result in a visit from hygiene as its illegal to sell past use by date.

I did look around for someone to talk to but there wasn’t really anyone that I thought would be interested!

You told them. They've apologised and rectified the situation.

What more do you want/expect?

Bread usually has a Best Before date rather than Use By date, and it is not illegal to sell items past the Best Before date.

On the odd occasion where I've mentioned something like that to the staff in Aldi, they move very fast to get it off the shelf.

I once found something in an Iceland chiller that was 6 months out of date, the manager literally ran to sort it out!
