Is solicitor mugging us off?

Options
My dad died around Christmas in 2017 with no will and the estate still hasn't come thru. He had a flat and monies in different places, bonds, bank accounts, pension. Etc.
Is it normal for a complicated probate to take this long? 21 months so far.

Has the flat been sold yet? In what way do you think he is "mugging you off?" If there's no will, is there a reason a solicitor was appointed to deal with it rather than a family member?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Your mistake was to appoint a solicitor to carry out the work which apart from the expense nearly always takes a lot longer than doing it yourselves. Having said that if the flat is still to be sold then that will be the reason for the excessive delay.

Have you asked the solicitor for an update recently?

Have you asked him what's going on?
  • This is happening to us. Our family member died May 2018 and the probate was granted January 2019. We hadn't received any contact from the executor at all. We contacted them! She asked for our bank account months ago and we've heard nothing (she is an accountant appointed by my late FIL). The property is in trust but the assets were to be released immediately.
DH has emailed her and no response so we are not sure what to do next!
