Very default and my credit rating

Options
Hello,

I’ve come into a problem with a old defaulted very account. Very sold my account last year to a debt collector Lowell I’ve paid them successfully last year but on my credit report very is still showing as active and that the money is owed still so each month I am defaulting on a account I can no longer use and will do for the next six years. I’ve contacted very who have said there’s no balance to pay them as it was sold to Lowell but my credit report is not reflecting due to the open active very account.

Can anyone offer any advice or the next steps I can do.
Thank you Claire

  • Which report are you looking at?

Are you sure the account isn’t under the closed/defaulted section with a zero balance?
  • It’s credit karma I only checked as I went for a new mortgage and the broker found it. It’s definitely showing as open with a current balance for very. I’m unsure how to go about this as I can’t pay the money to very as there’s no balance as it’s been sold.
  • I’m just defaulting every month even though these is no money to pay to them. I’ve rung very and asked if they can change the status or close the account as I can’t use It or pay the amount owed and that’s not an option.
  • Contact Lowell. Tell them you paid the account dd/mm/yyyy and that in your credit file(s), the account should be recorded as settled. (I assume you have got a letter from Lowell confirming the account was settled)

And check your other two credit files to see how the data has been recorded.

  • If you’ve paid it via Lowell then they need to inform Very it’s been paid off.

They should also backdate any default markers.
  • Thank you I’ve managed to speak to very and they’ve admitted it should have been removed from my credit file and should reflect in the next 24-48 hours. Thank you for all your help.
