2010 Polo issue
Got a 2010 Polo 1.2
The timing chain failed a few months ago and engine got destroyed opted to rebuild the engine for £500 instead of buying a new one for £900-£1200 (should of done this instead) the car was fine for around 3 months however now it’s showing error code P0341 with engine and traction light on (both for P0341 code) this points to the camshaft position sensor however changing this does nothing and so does unplugging it, so most likely it’s something to do with the chain since it’s had a new chain and valves would the chain be stretched again or could it just need retiming?

One other thing is the car does still run and drive just with a slight lack of power and higher fuel consumption0

Has a mechanic had a proper live diagnostics session looking at the sensor data whilst the engine is running or are you just reporting a stored fault code?
Was the fault code reset after changing the sensor?
Has the wiring for the sensor been fully checked?
Is the reluctor ring on the camshaft intact?
Has the mechanic checked the timing chain tension / stretch / position are correct?
Do all the above diagnostics before spending any more money randomly replacing parts and avoid driving the car, especially if the cause is the last of the above questions.0 -
P0341 is usually flagged when the cam position sensor isn't corresponding with the crank position sensor.
I've suffered this before, several times, particularly shortly after changing cam chains and belts.
First the cam timing needs checking again.
Then it's usually a "phonic relearn", a sort of electronic reset of both sensors.
I am not overly familiar with VW products, so couldn't tell you if it requires specialist software, I'm used to certain Italian products thAT only require a certain repeated idle and rev procedure to relearn.
Best advise I can give it talk to a VW specialist.0
