Warm home discount and changing supplier

Hi
Unfortunately my contracts always end in the middle of October and I lost out once before because I had forgotten to apply. Previous suppler always reminded me.
No I’m with eon and have put my application in, not conformed yet, but I really want to change my supplier. Does anyone know if I will lose the discount if I change and done get an application in in time with the new supplier? Or does my application get transferred?
If it doesn’t it’s not worth me swapping so feel a bit trapped.
Thanks for any advice. 😁

It depends on how you qualify for WHD
If you qualify because you are part of the 'core group' and were with a participating supplier on 7 July 2019, you will receive the discount from them.
If you qualify because you are part of the 'broader group' with a particular supplier, then you will lose that discount from that supplier if you do not remain with them until it is paid.
More details here:

perhaps it would be worth checking whether swapping suppliers would actually save you more than the WHD.
Staying with a supplier just because you get £140 WHD when you could possibly save £200 or more with another supplier may not be the sensible option. You need to do some comparisons and work out a few sums to see which is the best course of action.
You could change to a supplier who has no exit fees and then swap again next year sometime in the spring or summer if you find that October is inconvenient for you. You don't need to feel trapped, take charge and do something about it.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Thanks so much. I’ve searched but can’t find it. Part of my disability is cognitive so I struggle to stay focussed. This is from someone that Haines as an engineer, managed over 100 people and now struggle with so many things.
You have saved me anxiety and worry. 😁0 -

Good morning ScotlandTigerblue,
Thank you for the info on the thread guys
If you're in the Broader Group, and you change supplier before we make the payment, then you won’t be entitled to a payment from us. You’ll need to check with your new supplier if you can apply with them for your Warm Home Discount.
Unfortunately applications can’t be transferred between suppliers, so you’ll need to make a new application with your new supplier.
As DawnCrush says, If you're in the Core Group: The company that supplied your electricity on 7 July 2019 is responsible for giving you the discount, even if you’re now with another supplier. If we were your supplier and you've now left us you’ll normally get this as a cheque.
Thank you
