New roofing above bay window required

My victorian-era house has a bay window on the ground floor, not particularly large, where water has been leaking into that part of the living room.

A (reputable) roofer says it requires completely replacing as its original, new slates (which apparently have to be cut by hand) and soakers.

It doesn't look old or bad from the outside to be honest, but water ingress under heavier rain we've had is quite bad.

What I would say, the rest of the street already appears to have had theirs done (and therefore theirs have no leading), whereas a very significant part of mine is leading over the slates. Very wide lead down the sides towards the guttering, and also along where it joins the front elevation of the house.

Any idea on reasonable cost for what is 1 to 2 days work, and do I need to ask for the lead to be replaced with more lead?

Thanks

Have you only got one opinion? I'd get at least one or two more. Leaks often can be due to something that's not obvious to everyone (e.g., may be poor pointing - that explained the leak during heavy rain in my bay window).

Thanks for your reply, yes I am concerned it may not be the bay window roof - because the leak stain on the ceiling seems to be in between the wall where the window and the house meet.

The house is painted so not likely to be the pointing (which seems ok and was done within the last decade) but could be coming in through the windows or sils of the master bedroom above the running down. I even shoved rolled-up kitchen roll below the floor boards in my bedroom through the radiator holes to see if there was any water down there.

I have no idea really, and not even sure what trade to call to ask?
(I would never have guessed that the bay window roof was original Victorian era and that has shocked me, but is obvious when you compare to the other houses on the street)

Er, another roofer? What dunroving was getting at, was that you should be getting three quotes for the same job.
