Existing dropped kerb to shared driveway

Hi all,

Hope you can help direct who I need to reach out to, I have a number of issues relating to my dropped kerb and potholes.

I bought a semi-detached house six months ago with a shared driveway leading to both mine and neighbours garages. The neighbour currently doesn't drive and the landlord isn't willing to spend money on the driveway.

The dropped kerb for our shared driveway is an old block/setts paving (square stone in concrete), doesn't look great as the concrete in-between is eroding. The angle of the kerb is also quite steep and irregular (curved slope rather than straight)

Outside of the kerb on the road itself is a large pothole. Large enough that a car can't mount the drive without scraping a car, 4x4 jeeps and white vans are ok.

I'm aware that for the pothole I need to raise this the council, but for the dropped kerb problems (old, curved and steep slope) presumably it's the role of myself/neighbour to update rather than the council? I imagine their argument would be that they did the work once upon a time and won't constantly update/modernise.

Thoughts welcome.

Comments

  • When we looked at getting a dropped kerb done, it either had to be done by the council or by a contractor they'd approved (who would do the required paperwork). At our cost of course!
  • I'll contact the council, it's either we fix the shared driveway or drop our own kerb in front of our house which seems pricey.
