A Thomas Cook Question

Hi.
Firstly, I would like to send my sincere condolences to all staff that have been affected by the collapse of Thomas Cook.
We had a holiday booked in half term, which unfortunately will not now happen as planned but I have a question which I can't seem to find the answer for.
Our flights were meant to be with Easy Jet and not TC, so it is possible that the flights are still available; I appreciate that I need to check with Easy Jet to make sure that our seats are safe.
According to ATOL, the flight may still be available and if that is a case, they will allow us to fly and then reclaim under ATOL for the additional 'services' (presumably the hotel and transfers) that we need to purchase not exceeding the value of the total package paid, which was in the region of £2,000.
It is my understanding that if I now continue with the Easy Jet flights, as planned and then hire a hotel room for say £1,600, then I should expect to receive the £1,600 back from ATOL rather than the £2k. As we all know, flights have increased dramatically this week and so this would be my preferred solution.
Does anyone know if I have completely misunderstood how it works or should I just apply for a refund and cancel the holiday?
Any help would be gratefully received.

The flights may not be safe, there is no guarantee TC paid Easyjet for them, they acquired them in bulk for certain routes and wouldnt surprise me if Easyjet are on the list of creditors.
And even if they are, I dont think you can go and book your own accommodation at 80% of the total package cost and claim that back either. Its not an additional service, it is a replacement.
I stand to be corrected, mind.
When I booked TC and they were Easyjet flights (as recently as this summer), I was only sent the login to Easyjet 4 weeks before travel, maybe the payment to Easyjet isnt made until 4 weeks before you fly, if that is the case then you have no flights.0 -
Quick update : Easy Jet have not got us on their passenger list so this post is irrelevant!
Thanks anyway.0
