ist Direct Switch your regular bank account

Just looking to open an a/c with 1st D to get their regular saver. They offer £50 for a switch of what they call your 'Everyday Bank Account' I have an account that I hardly use with Starling that has just over £100 in it. Has anyone tried using a redundant account switch to get the payout?

  • I've used 'spare' bank accounts to switch in the past - no issues.

As js123 says, no issue in using spare bank accounts as long as you meet the requirements set out in the terms & conditions.

  • Banks are always quick to say you need to switch your "primary" or "everyday" bank account to them in order to qualify for their switch offers, when in reality any current account in your name will do. If you have an account with another bank that you no longer use, this can be a good way to bring in a bit of free cash. Alternatively, you can always open up a second account with your "primary" bank, and switch that account instead - either way as long as you meet the T&Cs of the switch offer you can get yourself some free cash.

A list of current bank switching offers can be found below, the FD offer is only one of many on the market at the moment: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/compare-best-bank-accounts/#bonus
  • Great! I'll give it a go.
