Dvla car tax fine.

Hi,
I have just received a dvla car tax fine going right back fron June for £270. The vehicle was sorn off road had mot and insurance still on it. Anyway it has been parked up on a private driveway sorn the whole time with a broken head gasket. I was getting bricks delivered up my drive way and moved it to the side of the road for a few hours to use my drive way when a clamping vehicle came from a dvla company and clamped the vehicle within a hour of being parked up. I think it was bad luck or someone rang it in.

Anyway I took it on the chin and had to pay £280 to get the vehicle clamp released then had to tax it as part of the rule. I no I was a ideat moving it but I have now been hit with yet another one we're to me it looks like the clamping agent who I believe contracts for dvla has sent the photo evidence and papers to dvla for another fine. i would never ever drive about with no tax and have my own family car on the road tax tested and insured. This has been a big mess up by me moving it.
The letter says we have received evidence that at 13.20hrs on the 27/06/2019 the vehicle was being used or kept while untaxed.
Even if you have taxed the vehicle since this offence it still stands.
You must pay a out of court of £270 in full by the 04/10/2019. This is separate to fees paid to the agency's wheel clamping contractors if your vehicle was clamped.

I struggled to find the last lot of fees never mind this one with only 2 weeks to try and get hold of it. Is it true you can not pay any instalments.

  • Again? You had a similar situation last year. In all honesty I think you have to consider whether running one car is affordable, let alone dealing with two. What would you do if your running car needed a few hundred quids' worth of repairs without warning? Is public transport a better, more affordable option?

You can only ask and see if they'll accept some sort of payment plan. I've no idea if they do or not.

As the letter says - the initial payment was for removal of the clamp, plus taxing the car. Now, you're getting the penalty.

The car was on the road when clamped. You admit that. So whether it'd been there long, or how they spotted it - all irrelevant.

As the letter says, the £270 is an out-of-court settlement, depending on being paid in full by 4th October. If you want something different, you'll need to discuss it in court.

What time/date was the first fine?

I don't think there was a first fine. The OP said he paid a release fee and the tax.

    Ok thanks.

You wouldn't think they would release the car, before the fine had been paid.

No, that's the standard way of doing it.
