When should missives be completed in Scotland?

Help!
My house in Scotland was under offer with the move out date to a new property I’m buying on Oct 4th. A woman was supposed to be buying here and last night I got a call from my solicitor saying she had backed out with no reason from her solicitor other than she’s changed her mind, the move is 10 days away! I have so much organised and new furniture/flooring/removal companies etc which has cost a fair bit. This will obviously not happen as I need this house to be sold first. I’m just wondering why she has been allowed to do this with only 10 days to go?
Thanks for any help on this!

  • Our missives weren't concluded on our sale or purchase until the day we moved out. Ideally we would have liked them to have concluded earlier as it was such a stressful time but we had a lot of issues with our purchasers solicitor being very pernickety and was still adding clauses etc right up to about an hour before we received a phone call saying the missives were concluded!

She's "allowed" to flounce off without penalty in the same way that you are - neither party is committed to anything until missives are concluded, and if either is uncertain then they will hold off until the last possible moment. Any removal bookings etc you make in the meantime are at your own risk.
