Hi
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advise on some freeware to partition my external harddrive. I know you can do it using DOS, but I'm a bit scared of it to be honest.
I bought a 500gb freeagent this morning and fancy sorting out patitions for music, tv shows, films, documents etc to help against any corruption. SO has anyone got any advice for me?
cheers

Why the hell would the OP need a tool to do it when Windows already has them built in?
To the OP:
Plug it into the computer and let the Add New Hardware wizard run. Once that's done, in XP go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Manager.
You'll see the drive there. Right click on the grey bar next to it and you'll see options to partition it and assign a drive letter.0 -
Partition tools offer more features that are useful to some - like merging adjacent partitions, undeleting partitions & redistributing free space (always remember to backup before commiting to any changes. I've merged partitions without losing data, but always backup just in case). Why the hell would the OP need a tool to do it when Windows already has them built in?
Couple of free ones I find very useful: Paragon Partition Manager 2005 or Paragon Hard Disk Manager 8 (more comprehensive with a backup/restore feature). Both can be download by following the links in this thread. G0
