Google Pixel3A Carphone warehouse fault with rain

Hello.
Bought 3A less than 30 days ago from CW.
It rained today and I spoke to my wife while on the pavement walking the kids to school. I never dropped it etc or let it get crazy wet.

Now
1 My camera is frosted over with condensation.
2 All-day it has been accepting power from the charger and then rejecting power on a 1-second cycle again and again. (it's charging now though)
3 When I make a call screen goes black and then phone needs to be rebooted.

I went into CW and they said would send for repair.
I would prefer a refund and Ill put it towards a different phone.

I've had mobiles since 1997 and never had an issue. where they stopped working because of the rain. My iphone SE would never do this....

I do not wish for the 3A to be repaired....

I need a phone I can use occasionally in the rain as happens in life!

I'm in my rights to get refund as less the 30days?

Thoughts, please?
I should be in the CRA 2015?

Many thanks

the latest Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL doesn't come with any waterproof certifications.

Given the amount of rain today, it would not be hard for water to get into it.

I used mine out walking today and it was soaked just making one call. Thankfully mine is IP67 cert.

  • Sure but iphone SE is not waterproof.
I used it for 1 minute yes in the rain.
So your not supposed to use the 3a in the rain?
    in 2019?
    Thats crazy

Also youtube has videos of ppl submerging a 3a!!
  • If it is certified to be water resistant to a degree more than you subjected it to, you have an argument. If you specified you required a certain level of water resistance when you bought it, you have an argument that it’s not fit for purpose.

If neither of those are the case, you don’t have an argument just because you think it should be rainproof.

What do the instructions say about exposure to rain?
  • There is nothing in the Safety & regulatory manual (Pixel 3a & Pixel 3a XL 2019) concerning rain or anywhere on the internet concerning rain

    Wired magazine states
Display does not stretch from top to bottom. No wireless charging. Mid-range processor. No MicroSD slot. Splash and rain resistant, but not waterproof.

  • I think you’re stuck. I clicked on your first link and there in the “Handling” section, it states:

Don’t expose your phone to liquids

I’m afraid that seems pretty clear to me.
  • I did ask about the non IP rating in which they said was "fine" just dont drop in water etc. As far as I can tell the water damage mark is intact on it (Its not red). Ill let you know how I get on...

Also pretty much all advertising be it not on Google ads say its fine in rain...
  • All you can do is try and push them for a refund but if they do, it will be goodwill I think.

Are they offering to repair it FOC? If so, it’s possible that if it can’t be repaired, they might offer a replacement or refund anyway.

The Pixel 3a has no IP rating at all and therefore isn't even classed a splash proof.

No, you're not supposed to use things that aren't waterproof in the rain.
  • My issue is I was advised by the salesman it was fine to use in rain.....
    As my Iphone SE is/was
