thomas cook mastercard travellers cheques

hi
In the demise of thomas cook, just wondering if anyone knows what will happen with any left over travellers cheques from holidays gone by (forgot I had any),now they have gone bust.
I used to pay any left over ones into the bank, but they do not know what the process is?
As they are no longer trading, you would assume the cheques would bounce,or would mastercard honour them?

Thanks

Didn't think anybody had used them for the last few decades.
  • Thomas Cook was not a bank as far as I know - does it have a bank name on them at all or a sort code?
The best thing to do IMO is sign them top and bottom as normal then write your name in the middle and pay them into your bank account.
If they clear in a few days they clear if not well you have had them for so long its perhaps obvious you don't need the money.
    Sorry if that appears harsh.

You could always frame them and hang them on the wall to remind you of the good old days.

Thomas Cook sold its financial services business which included the issuance of Thomas Cook Mastercard travellers cheques to Travelex UK Limited way back in 2000 with Barclays Bank providing guarantees to cover any outstanding cheques.

Travelex themselves stopped selling Travellers Cheques in 2008 but any valid cheques can still be encashed by them.

  • Thank you, I have just found $500 of old Thomas Cook travellers cheques from the early 1990s, (with '19' preprinted), and was wondering if they had turned up too late ...

My bank happily converted some old US dollar TC's I found a couple of years ago. I have recently found some Canadian dollar ones so will be taking those in soon too.

I banked some old sterling TCs a couple of months ago with no problems. They were a mixture of Visa and Am Ex cheques, not Thomas Cook, though.
