hi all
my and my wife are about 90% the way throught buying a red ash prperty this was only found out when we paid for a level 2 survey
the red ash is present but has a membrane on top to stop it cracking I have had a test and they said there is very little chance of it causing an attack in the future no cracks in floors or walls.
we are at the stage in mortgage that we need house insurance I have spoken to a few insurers but when I mention red ash they either don't know what it is or the system does not pick it up does this mean that it wouldn't be covered if I needed to claim in the future ?
or does anyone know a insurer that will cover us im not sure what I am supposed to be looking for when applying does it go under subsidence?
thanks all

Firstly, don't bother mentioning this to insurers unless you are asked a specific question that requires you to disclose it. In the absence of any previous or current damage I suspect there would be nothing that would oblige you to disclose this.
Secondly, I doubt it will be covered under the standard subsidence peril of any home insurance policy, they will all exclude use of inadequate materials, contraction or expansion of infill materials.
Unless there is a specialist indemnity insurance available for this I think it's a risk you have to accept if you choose to buy the property.0 -
Spoken to about 9 home insurance Companies today they all said they can't insure us on the red ash but everything else is fine we honestly wanted the red ash insured although we know there's no problems there just for peace of mind0
