Spouse VISA extortion

Last comment from me on this thread: not sure how you are arriving at your assumptions about the UK history of a total stranger, but in any case, the entitlement of a person to British citizenship isn't decided by people on the MSE Forum.
The info can be found in OP's opening post.
Hard to believe that your expertise as a person who was naturalised as a British citizen doesn't entitle you to decide that OP's wife should apply for British citizenship.Debt Totals July 2019::

OP if she needs the visa then it needs paying. No 1 is punishing you for marrying someone not from the UK. You chose to be together, surely you researched what would be involved in your wife living here eg costs involved ?
Afaik its not unlawful nor is it discrimination.0 -
If you feel it's too expensive the Malaysian equivalent is less than £20 per year (there is a hefty deposit, but it's refundable - with interest - when you apply for permanent residence).
More seriously, I have to pay for these visas too, it's worth remembering that she gets (among other benefits) free healthcare in return. I've seen how much the NHS bill people who haven't paid the surcharge - trust me you'll get your money's worth, especially if you choose to have a baby.0 -
Any news OP ?0

Although I am not up to date on these matters any more, are we sure that the visa fee mentioned is not the fee payable at consulates abroad for a spouse visa to travel to the UK for the first tim rather than a fee payable for an individual already in the UK to apply to have the period of their leave to remain extended.
The suggestion made in an earlier reply that UK nationality should be applied for as it was cheaper is unfortunately not possible at this time. In order for such an application to be made the individual must already have been granted indefinite leave to remain. As this person neds to extend their authorised period of stay, indefinite leave to remain has clearly not yet been granted.0 -
The fees are broadly the same, applying outside the UK is around £500 more even though these days everything is online and most applications processed in Sheffield irrespective of where the applicant is. A big chunk of the figure quoted previously is the NHS surcharge which is always the same.Although I am not up to date on these matters any more, are we sure that the visa fee mentioned is not the fee payable at consulates abroad for a spouse visa to travel to the UK for the first tim rather than a fee payable for an individual already in the UK to apply to have the period of their leave to remain extended.0 -
The fees are much the same as other countries. I've been looking at Australia as the hubby is an Ozzie and I've let my visa expire. The fees have risen to $7751 plus $1935 for each child. More than double what I paid in 2009.0
