Hi,
I have just been reading superscaper's sticky on backing up.
My question is that I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 with a DVD writer. However, how do I know whether it needs a DVD+RW or DVD-RW, dual layer, or does it not matter.
How can I tell what type of DVD writer I have?
Thanks.

Look in device manager- start/control panel/system/hardware/device manager to find the make and model of your dvd writer. You don't need to back-up to dual-layer dvds -expensive! Most modern writers will burn + and- dvds. dvd-rw and dvd+rw are re-recordable discs which you prob. don't need. Just get dvd-r .... however if you are worried you could look up your writer model and see which discs the manufacturer recomends.0

Thanks. It says it is a _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6650A, so I presume that it uses + and - DVDs.
I guess I'll soon find out.
Thanks again.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0
