DPD Lost my package

Hello Forum,

I was on a trip in Poland and sent a big package (11KG) via a DPD location to another DPD collection point in London.
They refused it in London as it was too big for the collection point and sent it back to Poland without any warning. I contacted DPD and they keep saying I should contact the sending company (DPD Poland) and I don't even speak the language. Also of course DPD Poland will ask me to pay again.
I was not able to resolve this with DPD UK and I really feel I have been treated unfairly.
Again no one tried to contact me about this. I even contacted them while the parcel was in the UK depot but they said that they cant stop the shipment back.

Can you please advise what I can do?

  • I’m afraid you need to brush up on Polish consumer rights because you have a contract with the Polish DPD, not the UK one.
  • Thanks for your replay. Ok but no one in UK called me about this. They could have told me they cant deliver to that shop and I would have ordered on my home address. And what can DPD Poland do? They made no mistake.

Deliver it to your home address?

The problem you have is that it was your responsibility to check that they could deliver to the address you chose. The UK branch of DPD doesn’t have a contract with you so their response was to send it back. Your best bet is to pay DPD Poland to send it to your home address.

It sounds like DPD Poland offered this particular DPD UK pickup shop as an option, rather than OP just looking up its postcode and sending it there. If this is the case, I am 100% on OP's side, but it is tricky as it is not in the UK.

If DPD Poland are willing to send it again to a different UK address at no extra charge, I would do that. Perhaps email them and include both an original and a Google Translate copy of your complaint. If they refuse, pay for it to be sent again. You may get away with doing a chargeback on the initial delivery that failed, once it has actually been delivered?

I agree, if that was the case.
  • Title says DPD lost the package, text does not, which is it and where is it?
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
