Hello,
Just wondering whether anyone has any experience in joining the Co-Op membership scheme. It's only £1 - but they offer to give you one share with a membership - and pay you dividends.
Should I join - or is it going to be useless. I probably won't use the other benefits - so will the dividends be worth it?

We've been Co-op members for over 15 years and it's been quite a while since we received any dividends from the Co-op, particularly since they stopped giving points to people with Smile Bank accounts or Co-op Bank accounts.
Unless you shop regularly at the Co-op (which we often do as it is walkable), and get cash back on your purchases and / or and special offer vouchers, I very much doubt that it's going to make you rich! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. You'll not make money on dividends.
The points and special offers are very similar to Tesco Clubcard or Sainsbury's nectar, so if you shop there anyway it's worth it.0 -
A few years back we had a mortgage with the Co-op bank which paid ‘dividends’ (ie points) which resulted in us getting enough points to obtain various electrical goods for ‘free’.
This was a happy incidental benefit, as we chose our mortgage as it was the best available to us at the time.
The ‘dividends’ basically stopped when the Co-op ran into difficulties and we had in the meantime redeemed our mortgage anyway.
It was good while it lasted, but I see no reason to particularly sign up now. It doesn’t seem to be anything special over collecting points with any other retailer.0 -
I get dividends as a customer of Co-op Energy - about £15 a year , which is automatically assigned to a charity .
I also shop sometimes at a local co-op store but as it is a different regional co=op to the energy one , I do not get any points . The national - regional relationship with the co -ops is complicated !0
