Wonder if it could be our Wifi router(s)?
No way. They would be white hot if they were using that amount of power !

Most devices have the consumption on a label somewhere so it's easy to spot the likely culprits, they're usually heating devices.

    Some very interesting replies here.

We do have an electric shower though probably gets used less than 5 mins a day. No underfloor heating. Combi boiler about 14 years old (Worcester) Hob is Gas/oven electric.

Our fridge freezer is an A rated hotpoint fridge freezer. Don't know if that's good these days?

Unfortunately we don't have a red flashing LED on the electric meter so have to use the energy monitor with the clip over the cable transmitter.

At first I thought the hike last month was one of those mini fridges (the small ones that hold six cans) as we put one in the bedroom to keep some cans cool whilst it's been quite warm at night but tested that and it doesn't use that much power when on so the £40 hike last month was a mystery.

@Deleted User - Yours sounds a similar setup to ours - we've got a 50" Plasma (probably use it around 5 hours a night) and our house is a small town/terraced house; however, our electric bill is double yours for some odd reason.

I may also look at purchasing one of those energy monitors that goes between the appliance and the wall socket. That would be extremely useful in working out how much energy each individual appliance is using.

    Cheers all :)
Routers only use a few watts, so maybe a kWhr per week. Look again at your mini fridge; many years ago I looked into beer fridges and they were crazy energy inefficient, like "E" or "F".

It's worth checking there's no immersion heater on a timer, or 500W security light getting triggered by cats all night.

Which you must admit is VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY 9and a few more) low for an all electric house.

I used around 6900 in my last house which had gas, thoug the electric shower was the downfall.

Yes I know - but we've got a super-duper Air Source Heat Pump which supplies our heating and hot water and I've got it set up pretty well so the boost heater never comes on.

I reckon that it uses around 1000kwh of leccy a year to heat the hot water (equivalent to about 2500kwh of gas) and 3500kwh a year when its heating the house (roughly equivalent to 9000-10,000kwh a year if it was gas).

We don't have an electric shower but we do have a washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher and a full sized upright A+ fridge and separate A++ full sized upright freezer. We cook with an induction hob and electric oven. We also have a 55" LED tv with full surround sound system, two laptop computers which are on virtually all day plus other stuff (my 3D printer uses around 60-70w whilst it's chuntering away for several hours a day). All lighting is LED especially in the kitchen where 10 x 4watt LEDs replaced 10 x 50watt halogens.

Our exact electricity consumption for the last 12 months has been 6617kwh. It's cost us £837.45 (£70 month) plus around £150 for logs on the log burner which gets used for around 3 hours a day in the winter.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
