Sky + recording problems...

Hi all. My Sky + records fine on most of the channels I use however on movie channels and virgin, plus a few others it goes weird. The image occasionally goes bitty, like it skips a little and become pixilated (sp?). The main problem though is the sound, its really hard to describe but it goes 'tinny' and the words dont come out clear. Watching it live doesn't seem to present these problems.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I can attemp to give more detail if needed.

Many Thanks.

Could be a problem with the part of the disk that it is being recorded to. You may need to reformat by accessing the engineers menu.

We started getting this, then it gradually got worse. We eventually replaced the HD with a spanking new 250gb one and its been fine ever since (+ we now have 120 hours of recording space)

  • I will give it a try although it does seem to be more specific to channels. Although watching live appears fine so it must be something to do with the hard drive I guess.

Is it easy replacing the HD?

easier than you think! there is a company that will send you the HD and a tool to undo all the screws and things for about 80 quid - google sky HD upgrade or similar.

It really is just a case of unscrewing the mounting, pulling the connectors off the old one, on to the new one and screw it back in

There is even some software called copy+ that will transfer all your recorded programmes, if you can hook the disks up to your pc

You will invalidate any warranty you have with sky, however. I waited until that ran out before I did it

  • Cheers for that. My Sky warranty runs out in a few months so may give that a try. Sky telephone help line are rubbish at best...
