Which Steam Generator Iron?

Hi there.

Our son has recently started school and we have suddenly noticed an increase in ironing and the time it is taking.

We have been reading about the significant benefits of steam generator irons but, as usual, there are dozens and dozens on the market.

I have started trying to research which is best but have become overwhelmed with features (for a start, they are further categorised as pressurised and non-pressurised).

I would be really grateful for any tips on what features I should be looking for and, perhaps, any recommended models.

Our Tefal steam generator iron has been working well for 6 years. It takes a while to heat up compared to a normal iron, so great for a stack of ironing, less so if it's just one shirt. I don't think it's pressurised but even if held vertically, you can steam a dress on a hanger.


Large reservoir means it can take longer before refilling but does make the unit heavier. Some have a removable reservoir so you can fill it from the tap. I have to fill our iron using a large jug.


Our Tefal has a locking handle that keeps the iron in place when moving it around, and the power and steam cords can be tucked away.
