Buying property in the Republic of `Ireland

I am originally from the Republic of Ireland but have lived in the UK for the last 37 years.
Now retired, I would like to purchase a retirement property in the ROI over the next. 5 years.

Ideally I want to buy an old property by the sea on the west coast for use by myself and my children.
Rather than commit all my capital for the purchase, I would like to fund 50% deposit with the remainder a mortgage over 5 years. I see this as a type of investment also.

Is it possible for a UK resident (with an ROI passport) to get a mortgage in Ireland?
Is it best to open an account with an ROI bank/building society to do this?
Are there any banks/building societies that are preferable?

Thank you

You really need to be asking on an Irish forum. This is a UK one.

My brother was able to get an Irish mortgage while resident in the UK and opened an Allied Irish Bank account. After a while he re-mortgaged his UK property to pay off the Irish mortgage

I expect the Northern Irish banks are used to this.
