Dual Tarriffs and switching supplier: vicious cycle

Long time lurker, first time poster! I did a search yesterday and couldn't find this problem discussed.

We are on a dual tarriff (night and day), as this was what operating when we bought this house. We want to change supplier. The new supplier doesn't offer a dual tarriff, so cannot take us on because our meter won't read their tarriff. We have to change to single meter first, with the current supplier.

Current supplier says: we can't give you a single meter because you're on a dual tarriff, and it's illegal to give you a meter that won't read your tarriff.
They also say: We can't put you on a single tarriff because you have a dual meter, and it won't work with a single tarriff.

Do you see the circle here?

Short of taking a sledge hammer to the meter, has anyone else found a solution to this?
Current supplier has been consistently horrible and we really want to get away from them.

A lot of suppliers are happy to take night/day meter readings whilst having you on a single rate tarrif. In the last 12 months alone I've done that with Ovo, Pure Planet and Yorkshire Energy. Just contact a potential supplier to check it's ok with them before initiating a switch.

You appear to be confusing a dual tariff (a tariff where you obatin both gas and electricity from the same supplier on a single tariff) with a dual rate electricvity tariff, such as Economy 7.

Input the correct details into any comparison site, and you will be offered tariffs available to you.

Contrary to the above post, only a handful of suppliers will allow you to have a single rate tariff with a dual rate meter.
(these will not be offered to you on a comparison site, as they often require you to make a specific request to the supplier for this oddity)

Been discussed before, I'm not discussing it again.
Use the search function to find the earlier discussion, if you are interested.

If you are so keen to pay full whack for your electricity all day every day, rather than benefit from cheap rate electricity for at least 7 hours a day, then contact your supplier and get a single rate meter fitted - that's the correct solution. Then you will have the choice of the whole market as to which supplier you wish to pay full rate all day, every day.

Mela - just so can be sure what you problem is.

You are talking soley about electricity and you have a dual rate meter - one which shows consumption and a second for the day. Usually called an E7. You do not have gas.

When you use a comparison site select Electricity Only then when asked do you have a E7 answer yes.

Often you will be asked for the % used at night.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

I'm not aware of any suppliers who don't offer an E7 tariff? However, many do not support E10 tariffs, except for the legacy suppliers, which is why you cannot use a comp site to compare E10.
So OP needs to stop confusing the issue with the phrase 'dual tariff', and tell us what sort of metering and tariff they actually have at present.
The only way to come off E10 is to have the meters changed.
