O/S Daily Monday 23 September 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, but not so cold, dry underfoot at the moment, but rain forecast, we didn't get rain yesterday until nearly 5pm. We'll see what happens today.
DH and DS1 up and getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Lunch yesterday was chicken, HM egg and veg fried rice, pasta in a sauce and bombay potato - was lovely and nice to have something different. Tonight we'll be having egg, bacon, sausage, black pudding, hash browns, mushrooms and beans.
Back to work today for me, we'll see how it goes, we didn't have proper systems on Saturday and several people came in that we couldn't help - so it's likely they will return today.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc.
We had torrential rain and thunder first thing yesterday followed by showers but it was so mild. I went out to clear some of the rubble in the garden and was sweating buckets! Managed to break up some slabs and get them in the skip, someone is coming today (hopefully) to pick up the rest of the slabs as I advertised them on Freegle. If I do half an hour a day I'll get it done before the skip leaves.
Sounds like you're enjoying your time at home Gers, here's to many more visits for you.
Have a good few days away MM.
Hope your leg is healing TA.
Just going for a swim then a day in the mad house, a 4 day week for us as it's September weekend. Take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone.
No thunder here yesterday though late in the afternoon a low misty rain started.
I've had the best nights sleep for ages even though I was awake for about an hour right in the middle of it. Not wide awake, just a sort of twilight feeling of being conscious though almost asleep. Quite pleasant if odd.
No idea what's in store for today. The original plans were for me to return to DM today so I need to fill my day. It's going to be raining, seems the take end of a now weak hurricane is coming through.
My thoughts to all. And a very happy Monday.0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's still feeling very mild here with showers forecast for today.
I have the pleasure of a bus trip to the hospital this morning. It's only for a blood test, which has to be done a week before the MRI scan, but I expect half the surrounding area to be sat waiting as usual! I shall take my book with me and hope I don't get so engrossed that I miss my number being called!
Update on the scalded leg! The area below the burst blister is now scabbing over. It looks a mess but it's not painful so hopefully I am over the worst now! It's taught me to be more careful with pots of boiling liquid!!
Have a good day all, thinking of the poorlies, sad, worried, lonely and absent friends. TAFF you are in my thoughts. GERS enjoy your bonus day at home. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
Today I need to finish sorting out my wardrobe. I keep making a start on putting away my summer clothes but haven’t managed to finish the job. I also need to give the bathroom a good clean, so they are the two main jobs for today.
If it stops raining for long enough this afternoon I will try and get the paths swept. It’s one of my least favourite jobs, but it needs to be done.
First, I’m going to have another cup of tea and then go for a walk to the supermarket.
AOD I hope that you are feeling a bit better now.
Enjoy your break away meanmarie.
Pleased to hear the leg is less painful TA.
Gers enjoy your extra day.
Thinking of you Taff.
I hope that you all have a good day xx0 -
Good morning, it's grey and damp here but not cold. We've had rain as well.
I posted on Saturday after catching up on Fridays "episode" then discovered I'd posted on Fridays' thread !!
Glad you got home Gers, I would be watching the sea all the time if I lived where you do, I'm envious!!
DP1, your Dgd seems to be doing v well.
Holly, I'm pleased you're getting out while the weather is good,
TA that blister sounds nasty, hope you're ok.
I don't know where the weekend has gone, we didn't have any visitors, but the time has flown away, I did do my ironing on Saturday morning, so felt quite pleased with myself, then in the afternoon visited a friend who lives in one of those retirement places that are springing up all over, it's near by,
She'd rung before 8am on Saturday morning and sounded so low. Anyway she'd perked up by the time I got over there, so spent a couple of hours chatting. Chatting is one thing I do well !!
Went to L*dl yesterday, then home for the day.
We'll have Dgd after school for a couple of hours as usual. She usually asks for sausage, mash, broccoli, carrots and gravy so all those items are here.
That's it really -
Hope everyone has a good Monday
Take care folks xx0 -
Good morning everybody,
Hope you all had a lovely weekend.
I didn't really get it up to much tbh, which I was absolutely fine with. You know that way where you feel like you need a holiday once you come back from a holiday? I went to yoga, got the shopping in, 2 rounds of washing, drying and ironing, made a salted caramel brownie, made my lunches for the week (Bombay lamb wraps), cleaned the flat, watched lots of sport and enjoyed a long lie. Per-fect.
No gym this morning but I will be going tonight, followed by yoga and an early night. Red eye to London tomorrow with work, so I'll watch my spends - for my sake and the companies. Got my step-brothers and their other halves to commit to secret santa and made the draw over the weekend. I've drawn my step-bro in South Korea, so I'll need to get my thinking cap on.
Gers - Enjoy your day0 -
Morning all, a pleasant morning here though we ate forecast rain later. I'd like to get some washing done but it is bedlinen and OH is still in it so it will have to wait.
We are meant to have a visit from a handyman or maintenance operative as he'd possibly prefer to be called. He didn't get here twice last week.
Other than that, no news, hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -

TravellingAbuela I hope your leg is OK x
Scamp has decided he needs to join in with conversations and keeps making funny noises. When I tell him he sounds like Scooby Doo, he sits and does the cutest head tilt
I walked into the kitchen this morning and saw a nice clean hob. I don't know who did it, I'm just glad it's been done
I need to de-fur the carpets and sofas this morning. I miss one day of vacuuming and the place looks like I've hosted a puppy party :rotfl: I have a bit of work to do then will update the household spreadsheets. Not sure about this afternoon, I'll decide after I've eaten lunch.Bulletproof0 -
Morning
Gorgeous start to the day despite all the predicted gloom
TA I will be joining you today in the predicted hospital wait. I am off to get my eye lasered which in truth I am really looking forward to. I have cataract lens replacement a few years ago which was just transformational but over time my left eye has become cloudy so my vision has been badly affected. The laser will be like a Karcher window cleaner and give it a good polishCant wait to see clearly out of both eyes again so the wait is worth while. I am forever grateful to our wonderful NHS especially when I speak to close friends across the pond who have to put up with it or pay. Plan is to take my workbook for tomorrows course and do some prep which I need to do so sods law there will be no wait :rotfl:
Really sad to hear about the demise of Thomas Cook so many jobs and holiday dreams gone. Apparently they started in 1841 and are such a part of our high street. Hope our ruby is not affected.
Grabbed some sausage casserole and a crusty loaf out the freezer for a quick dinner in case of any lingering eye issues.
Have a great day all0 -
Despite the wet weather I’ve been busy in the house clearing out stuff. I’ve got a black bag full for the tip a lot of which is work related items, a bag for recycling and one for a CS. As I left here in early March intending to be away for only a few days there was a lot needing sorting.
Another friend dropped in first thing to welcome me back. Even though neighbours are generally miles away they soon notice (and care about) absences and appearances. Very nice too.
I’ve got some tarnished silver items soaking in a bowl lined with silver paper and containing bicarb and boiling water. I hope this works.
At least the outside stuff has been done. Now it’s time for tea and a bit of eye shut.0
