Short Break abroad

Hi

We've managed to secure some childcare so me & my husband have the opportunity to take a short break somewhere at the beginning of October.

We're able to go in term time so we've been looking for a cheap deal for 4 - 5 days.

I've been trawling all the websites getting more & more confused !

Is it better to book flight & accommodation together through say last minute.com or voyage prive etc or do you get a better deal if you book flights & hotel separately?

Are there any particularly good websites or any to be avoided ?

Any advice appreciated ! :)

Cheers

Jen

    Hi Jen.

Booking a package gives you better cover if something happens to the supplier/operator.

What I've done previously when booking very soon before travel is find a cheap flight (usually Ryanair) then book the accommodation through Booking.com

I've used loveholidays website a few times as well, I like their search engine as you don't have to enter a destination, you can pick dates and see what's available. The only downside is that if you're on a tight budget and filter results for lowest price first a lot of hostel accommodation pops up.

Jet2 are a good tour operator if they fly from your airport?

If you have some flexibility on the dates look at Monday to Friday flights/stays, they are usually a bit cheaper than flights/stays at the weekend.

    Happy holidays!

What I alway do is look at sky scanner for the cheapest flights to anywhere for the dates I want, then decide if thats where I want to go

Then look at transfers and accommodation

Thats when I decide if a package will. work out cheaper or DIY without too much hassle.

Recently we got really cheap flights to Faro, I then found amazingly cheap
accommodation on an all inclusive hotel site, with the option of airport pick up and return not more than a bus and train journey, a weeks holiday for two for £260. Another time a weeks full board in Salou for £150

However those deals really do need spending time researching, which if you work full time, can add to the cost iyswim

Other times it just been cheaper to buy a package because I just cant find cheap enough flights, especially if I have a particular destination in mind - Turkey for instance

I never use Last minute, I tend to use trip advisor for reviews for hotels and prices and then either book direct or see who's selling the rooms cheap
  • Thanks Baled,

I'll have a look at love holidays.
In recent years we've had to plan round children & school holidays etc so very little experience of adult only holidays in recent years.
We've no strong views of where we want to go but neither of us are sun bathers so not looking for that kind of holiday
    Cheers

I've used jet 2 holidays several times and recommended them to others. I always check out the accommodation on Tripadvisor & Trivago before choosing.

Can't fault their service. Comfortable flights and their packages include 22kg of hold luggage and usually (though apparently not in Krakow:cool:) include transfers. I've tried to beat their prices by doing it independently, but failed so far.
