Looking for a new PC for browsing and listening to music.
Brand new, not refurb.

Budget of £500

Mesh and Novatech have some excellent looking machines, are they any good ?

I know you state brand new, but you are turning down some excellent refurb dell optiplex and hp pro's that cost about 50% to 70% less that will do exactly what you want, and you could be a fairly decent set of speakers with that money, or an ok graphics card, or storage.

Just do not be swayed by poor components in a pretty box.

Come back to us with some models

My friend got her 386 from Mesh and they gave her great support at the time.

You don't need an all singing and all dancing machine for internet use and playing music. In fact you probably don't even need a PC, could you get away with a a laptop instead?

They aren't as powerful as a desktop, granted, but you get portability and they use less power.

    Thanks guys.
I get on better with desktops.

I've checked trustpilot for Novatech and they have top reviews.

I'm not buying one just yet, it'll be around christmas.

Some desktops and laptops forego the CD/DVD drive these days because more people tend to stream/download music, films etc.

    Ok great.
I have Linux Ubuntu on a USB which I used to install the OS on my current ( old ) computer.

DO most modern PCs come with the ability to boot from USB ( even if it means messing with the bios )
  • Every computer made in the last 15 years or so can boot from USB ;)

What is the spec of your current PC?
    Have you consider upgrading?

Would you consider used PC? £200 - 300 used PC on ebay can do the job.

Its a 2007 Dell Inspiron ( which i have alreay upgraded the Ram and the GPU )
    3GB Ram
    160GB HDD
    Ati 5450
    AMD Athlon 64 processor.

    I'd like
    • brand new,
    • PSU minimum of 400w ,
    • not slimline ( Want a full sized tower )
    • HDMi Out

And preferably with a DVD drive just incase I need it in future

I know, but on my sisters laptop I couldn't get it to recognise the USB stick on the boot manager screen when pressing F12 and had to use a DVD to install linux on it.
We couldn't however, get into the BIOS which might have something to do with it ( we forgot the bios password lol )

If you have already added ram and a GPU to you old machine, it wouldn't be a large step up to build your own machine. It'll then be the exact spec you want with quality parts. Plenty of videos on your tube showing you exactly how to do it.
