O/S Daily Sunday 22 September 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Light, cloudy but dry here at the moment. Rain forecast on and off today and the coming days.

DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was ham, mushroom and cheese omelette, skinny chips and coleslaw for DH, I had a caponata with mushroom and cheese parcel (odd item used up out of the freezer). I had planned a roast chicken dinner today but DH has requested rice, pasta in sauce with it instead - so that's what we'll be having, less work and something different.

We didn't go out yesterday afternoon, we chilled at home which was nice, DS1 was out watching local team playing an away football match. There's a few jobs to do so may get them done today.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and NMLC thanks for starting. It's fine at the moment but it's looking very gloomy out there and feels very humid.. I think they may be right with the forecast of thunderstorms.

The DGDs were very late to bed last night so I expected them to have a lie in but I can hear fairy footsteps above me! Not sure when to expect DD coming for them but I should imagine after lunch as they would be very late back from the wedding. I am planning their lunch in case!

I deliberated over what to do with the big blister on my leg yesterday. One theory said leave alone and another said burst it with a sterilised needle. I decided on the former but within an hour it suddenly burst itself! What a mess it made. I am now applying copious amounts of antiseptic and hoping it heals ok.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. And of course absent friends. Thinking of TAFF and hoping GERS is enjoying her weekend away. Take care all xx

  • Morning everyone

I had a lovely afternoon tea out yesterday and we really enjoyed it. Afterwards we went for a walk along the river and stopped at a country pub on the way home. It was a lovely way to enjoy what is supposed to have been the last good day of the summer.

It’s sunny here at the moment so I stripped my bed and that is on the line. Hopefully it will dry before we get the forecast rain. It will soon be back to using the dryer.

Today I’m going to spend the day with my brother. He will come over for me this morning and he has booked lunch in our favourite pub. We usually go for a walk around one of the local villages after lunch and back to his house for the rest of the day. This has now become a regular thing when my sister in law is out on a Sunday which is quite often.

Gers I’m glad that you are enjoying your time at home and that your mum is managing so well.

    Thinking of you Taff. x

Hester I hope that the propeller is easily repaired and not too costly.

TA I hope that your leg is ok, it sounds really painful.

Thinking of those who are struggling

I hope that you all have a good day xx

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all,
I know... it's unusual for me to be one of the early posters but DHs mobile rang at 5.50,unknown caller :( so that was the end of sleep for me- on a Sunday too,how rude:D. I came down as thunder and lightning was waking Ly1a & I didnt want her waking everyone up.Disappointing after a decent week, really heavy rain too.
DH got the sink done yesterday, looks much better. He'll probably crack on with the rest of the flooring today with it being a bad day.At least I'll be able to have a good tidy once all the boxes have gone.
We had a great Indian meal out with our friends last night,we were so full we all wanted to go and lie down :rotfl:.It wasnt a late night though.
Steak for tea tonight,I usually get flat iron steak from morries so it's not a dear meal when it's on offer.
Another cuppa for me now so hope the weather is better where you all are, have good days all xx

Managed to get 2 coats of oil on the deck yesterday, hope it has dried enough for the forecast rain today.

DDs partner didn't go to football yesterday so they came here for a few hours which was lovely. We went for a little walk with the pram and all the neighbours came in to see little Sophie. She will be the best dressed baby about, everyone has been so kind.

The unexpected visit caused me to have a very quick clean and tidy up, I was going to leave it until today. I also took the kitchen and hall rugs across the road as my friends have a carpet cleaner so we did those in the garden and they dried in the sun, can't believe how much dirt came out of them and they look so much better!

Ironing and the rest of the housework to catch up on this morning, not much else planned.

Glad you made it home Gers, enjoy your time there.
I hope your leg is OK TA, sounds really painful.

    Happy Sunday, take care. XX

Steve's gone off to play golf with Chris. We're off to the Yorkshire house this afternoon so I'll be packing and tidying. We have a fun week of decorating and sorting in front of us.

The course yesterday was good - sort of. I feel much more confident of using the overlocker but what we were taught could have taken a couple of hours instead of six because she was going round us individually. I had plenty of time to chat to the women on my table though which was enjoyable.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning Everyone,

Dull and rain due later. Well looking at the forecast rain is due for the next 11 days.
Yesterday I put out a load of washing.
I replied to a few of the pen friend letters, that I had received. I have re joined a pen - friend club , now that I have a little more time on my hands, I am trying to create a little more 'me' time.
It was lovely sitting outside in what was probably the last hot sunshine of this year.

Today we are off out to a local pub , see what the food and place is like. I am pre-planning for Christmas.

Have a good Sunday all x

    Good morning everyone.

What a lovely day it was yesterday. When I arrived home I was straight in the back garden cutting back hugely overgrown blackberry bushes, uprooting meandering brambles and sorting out an unknown but unwieldy plant.

A passing neighbour dropped in for a dram and a chat and then I settled down to watch SCD and drink wine.

I'm still in bed :p watching the tide turn is endlessly fascinating and hearing birds twittering is so relaxing. In Glasgow it's the horrid squawking of seagulls which is painful to my ears.

There was a Maserati rally being held in the Rest and Be Thankful's old military road yesterday. Beautiful cars.

The spare bedroom needs sorting out. I had dumped a whole load of books on it before I left to give the window cleaner access. Now they need putting back.

The sun is out and so should I be! Wish everyone a lovely and happy Sunday.
  • What a lovely sunny day yesterday!! this morning very grey sky and steady drizzle. I am glad I took advantage yesterday and did a load of washing.

Chicken defrosting in the fridge for supper tonight, it will do us 3 meals and also stock for soup. no idea what to do for dessert. OH may well decide to just have ice cream, none for me.

Oh poo...found my mouldy and smelly washing machine. Now got it on a boil wash with vinegar.

I phoned Royal Mail about the post which hadn’t been redirected, seems that they don’t redirect government mail. So the two letters about electoral roll registration just sat there since July. Rubbish!

DM sent me a text saying, amongst other things, that I should stay until Tuesday morning. It’s a definite maybe.

I’ve been trying on stuff from my wardrobe, my lovely bright yellow tin cloth jacket size 18 fits again. That’s added to the weekend cheer. I’m going to give some jackets and a coat to a CS, I am rather over-provided in that department as I used to have a thing for them. Mind you, I still do though realise how foolish it is. Time with DM has been the flash.
