Will my oven fit?

Our oven's broken and we need a replacement. It's a double-oven fitted under the worktop. My problem is that its dimensions are (at least from comparing other ovens online) a bit unusual: H: 718mm, W: 595mm, D: 540mm.

I can find ovens with about the same width and depth but none with the same height: either about 100mm taller or shorter.

I'm worried about two things: a) will an electrician even be able to fit a shorter oven? Will it actually be possible to fit it into the worktop, and b) is it going to leave an unsightly 100mm gap (either between the top of the 'skirting board' under the counters and the bottom of the oven, or between the worktop and the top of the oven).

Has anyone encountered this issue before, or anything similar? I've never bought an oven before so a bit perplexed as to what goes into it. Any/all advice much appreciated!

Those dimensions sound a little off... Could you post the make & model number.

Assuming the oven is installed in a standard 600mm housing unit, most should just slot straight in.

  • Thanks, it's a CDA DC740SS. Having quickly googled I think the dimensions I put are the right ones --- you've anticipated my worry though, nightmare possibility of ordering something and it not fitting.
  • That model is still available from lots of suppliers if you want a direct replacement. 720mm high is a standard built under double oven height. Others include this one which is the cheapest in stock at AO.

If you want a standard size single built under oven which is about 100mm shorter, you may need to put an oven support shelf into the existing base unit to put the new oven on, and fill the gap with an oven filler panel eg

There are 2 types of double ovens. Built-in double ovens are around 90cm in height and are designed to be fitted at eye level. Built-under double ovens which go under worktops are around 70cm in height. A lot of manufacturer's will have both.

For example go to the AO.com website for electric double ovens and filter on Built Under and they should all be over 70cm in height.

  • Ah this is really helpful, thank you. I'd not realised there were two types (that explains why I've not been able to find one that's the right size!!)

An alternative to a filler strip is to use the gap for a shallow drawer. It still needs a panel to cover the gap... I fitted a shallow drawer under my (single) oven, and use it to store a couple of baking trays - About all that will fit in there.
You can also get plate warming drawers designed to fit under an oven - Don't really see the point myself, but each to their own.
